U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)

The SBA provides financial, technical and management assistance to Americans who want to start, run and grow a business. With a portfolio of business loans and loan guarantees of more than $45 billion, SBA is the nation’s largest single financial backer of small businesses. In Maryland alone, small businesses receive approximately $123 million in SBA loan guarantees.

The SBA also plays a major role in the government’s disaster relief efforts by making low-interest recovery loans to both homeowners and businesses. The agency’s services encompass the full range of assistance, including information on procurement assistance, the Small Business Innovation Research program and surety bonding. The SBA’s Baltimore District Office serves most of the state of Maryland with the exception of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, which are served by the Washington, D.C. District Office.
