Microenterprise Council of Maryland

MCM is a nonprofit network of public agencies and private companies providing direct services and support to entrepreneurs starting their own microenterprise with five or fewer employees. Nearly 87 percent of businesses in Maryland are microenterprises. Common microbusinesses include tailors, car repair shops, dry cleaners, daycare providers, arts & crafts, computer technology, catering, sewing, fishing charters and many others.

Member organizations include community development corporations and financial institutions, loan funds, women’s business centers, community action agencies and small business development centers. 

MCM members offer a variety of business development services to microbusinesses such as:
  • Outreach services to recruit existing or potential entrepreneurs
  • Training and technical assistance
  • Help in planning, marketing, and managing a business
  • Credit and affordable loans from in-house funds or collaborating banks
  • Asset development and economic literacy
  • Ongoing assistance to meet the everyday challenges of running a business
  • Screening and assessment, personal skills and Internet training
  • Community networking and resource sharing
  • Government certification and procurement help
