Two-Year Independent Colleges

In addition to the schools listed below, Maryland is home to private career schools offering programs in health, computer technology, mechanics and drafting, and other fields. Additional information is available through the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education
The Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education offers associate of applied science degrees and certificates in nautical science and marine engineering. It is located on a 70-acre waterfront campus in southern Maryland. Curriculum includes academic and practical skills required by positions on US merchant ships. The basic training program is run on a quasi-military basis. Upon completion of the Unlicensed Apprentice Program, students are placed aboard US flag ships and become full members of the Seafarers International Union. Degree and certificate requirements are completed by alternating working sea voyages with school attendance.

TESST College of Technology
TESST College of Technology is an accredited private two-year college that specializes in preparing students for employment in technology-related career fields. The College offers both degree and certificate programs in networking and information technology as well as electronics, computer repair and telecommunications. In addition, certificate programs are available in drafting and graphic design, computer programming, software applications and climate control technology. Continuing education and certification programs are also available. TESST has three convenient campus locations in Maryland: Baltimore, Beltsville and Towson along with a campus location in Alexandria, Virginia.
